Sony Pictures Acquires Rights to “Heaven is for Real”
Sony Pictures has acquired screen rights to Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. The book was published by Thomas Nelson and has climbed the NYT Bestseller list since last November.
The film will be co-produced by Texas pastor T.D. Jakes. Jakes produced and played a pastor in Jumping the Broom, which Sony Pictures recently released. It received a positive response from the movie-going public.
The book by Todd Burpo, a Nebraska pastor, and Lynn Vincent, relates the story of Burpo’s four year old son Colton, who allegedly died during an appendectomy operation. He came back to life and began talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating, and he said he could see his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn’t initially know what to think about Colton’s revelations, and the book was released about 6 years after the event transpired.
Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born. He described the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us, according to the publisher.
Colton’s simple message, as conveyed though his father and writer Lynn Vincent, is that heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and that there is a coming last battle.
